Even experienced scuba divers should be accompanied by a local guide or instructor during their first Tahoe decent because of the high altitude. Rental kayaks, sail boats and motor boats are available at ports around the lake, and arrangements can be made to parasail or go fishing for the "big one" with a knowledgeable local guide. Hot air ballooning offers a gentler way to climb into the skies and ascents can be made from Lake Tahoe and Reno balloonports.
