Lake Tahoe Outdoor adventure in Reno-Tahoe: Lake Tahoe, at an evelation of 6,200 feet, is situated in a world of panoramic beauty. Nestled amoung alpine forests and meadows are several world class ski resorts where visitors tackle bunny hills, expert and extreme challenges, cross country skiing, snowboarding and snowmobiling.
Visitors and local residents alike enjoy the numerous lakes, canyons, reservoirs, rivers, hiking trails and bicycling paths that abound in our local mountains. 8,266 foot Peavine Peak, almost within Reno's city limits, offers many trails, as do the mountains surrounding Virginia City, thirty miles to the south.
Lake Tahoe is a 1,645 feet deep and lures people to descend in scuba gear at Cave Rock or Sand Harbor. Even experienced scuba divers should be accompanied by a local guide or instructor during their first Tahoe decent because of the high altitude.
Visitors can participate in all the usual water sports. Rental kayaks, sail boats and motor boats are available at ports around the lake, and arrangements can be made to parasail or go fishing for the "big one" with a knowledgeable local guide.
Glider rides from one of several airports. Soaring begins at 10,000 feet and on a clear day the California coastal range is visible. Hot air ballooning offers a gentler way to climb into the skies and ascents can be made from Lake Tahoe and Reno balloonports.
The Reno-Tahoe area boasts more than 40 hotels and casinos, many of them luxury resorts with all amenitites..Gourmet dining, or a meal on the run can be found for every taste or budget.
